If he had anything close to one it was purely fatalistic: you live, suffer, toil, have a few good moments, and then you die in pain.A flash caught his eye. He looked out at the horizon and saw some kind of activity close to the woods about a mile away. A blue glow was subsiding. He knew that signature; a time machine had materialised there. Had they come for him?He put his fingertip to the wrist device. It lit up but there was no arrival indicator despite the beacon still broadcasting. Strange. If it was his people, there should have been. He held his hand up to shield his eyes from the low sun and scanned the line of trees. Nothing. Maybe it was something else, something of this era that he had no knowledge of.%u201cHey. Slacking already?%u201d He turned. Kelly stood there holding a tray with a glass of milk and a plate with a sandwich on it. She smiled. %u201cHere. Have this while I milk Lady. She%u2019s the best tempered and unlikely to kick.%u201dShe passed him the tray, and he watched as she put a stool down and a bucket and showed him how to milk a cow. It was rewarding to watch as he had never seen it before. He finished the sandwich as she said. %u201cNow you try, and he did. It was an enjoyable sensation, Pull, squirt, relax pull the other one, squirt.%u201cTry not to over squeeze. If you do it too hard, a cow will likely try and kick you.
