105then looked at Luke again.They said nothing. Their minds were whirring biological analysing devices trying to reason out why they looked identical. Luke ventured some words, %u201cWhat%u2019s your name and what era are you from?%u201d%u201cMax. Four.%u201d Silence. %u201cYou?%u201d%u201cLuke. Three.%u201dSilence. %u201cWhy are you here?%u201d Luke asked.%u201cI had not intended to be.%u201d The stranger, Max, said.%u201cWhy, then?%u201d Luke asked.The other man, (Luke two, Max) shrugged. %u201cTo be honest, I have no idea. I wanted to get past the break, and get to the start of this era to understand more about its origin. What is the year of the third era?%u201d%u201cI think it is about 1941. There%u2019s a world war going on.%u201d Luke told him.Max nodded. %u201cPerhaps we could meet tomorrow. I have unloaded a shelter and pitched it in the woods. I detected a signal not of a frequency of this age. I assume now it was yours?%u201dLuke held up his watch. %u201cI crashed and transmitted a beacon to be collected by people from my time. I%u2019m marooned here. It%u2019s best you stay in the woods. I%u2019ll meet you tomorrow. Do you have food?%u201d%u201cEnough for a few days.%u201d The other one said.Luke watched as he turned and walked away. And then he looked back at the cottage. Should he tell Kelly? This was so odd. He realised he had just encountered a person appearing exactly like him, from an era he had only suspected existed. A fourth era. It was an answer in itself. The end of this third era was not like many of his time believed%u2014the end of everything. Humanity somehow survives. The Time Traveller
