The evening was still hot and stifling and she saw the window was closed. She threw the duvet off, got up and opened it fully, removed her dressing gown, and returned to lie on top of the bed, thinking about what Dan had said to her in the kitchen. She fell asleep shortly after.Outside, the street was quiet and deserted. The bright moon competed with the sodium glare of street lights to highlight the sharp edges of the sink hole, and the white bony fingers clutching its edge. Slowly, a white head appeared with large saucer-like eyes that blinked when encountering the bright lights. The white, almost skull-like head, raised higher until a bony man with pale skin, which showed the blue of his veins beneath, climbed out of it and crawled on all fours towards the houses. The small, fragile-looking figure scampered like a forward-walking crab along the pavement, his head turning this way and that looking for danger. He looked up and saw a light shining from an open window and turned to crawl towards it. As he passed an iron garden gate, a cat saw him, got spooked, and hissed with a wide open mouth and bared, long, sharp teeth.The man opened his mouth wider then the cat%u2019s as he hissed louder The Sink Hole
