                                    114 Would they send more from his era to locate and now kill him? He doubted it. The machines took many years to build each one and having lost, two meant just two remained in existence. They would not risk more. As he returned to the cottage, he felt happy that his chances of staying, and both himself and Kelly remaining safe, had improved dramatically.He reached the cottage and now had to decide whether to tell Kelly, or not.He entered the building where he knew she was using the ovens to bake the loaves. It was easy to find as he had only to follow that lovely fresh smell. He stood by the open door watching her, Kelly%u2014her clothes dusted with white flour, a lock of flaming red hair dangling over her pale face covered with sweat.She felt his presence, turned, pulled back the lock over her face, and smiled. He paced up to her rapidly, snatched her into her arms and kissed her with such passion, that they were locked that way for over a minute. When they broke, she said, %u201cEverything alright?%u201dHe nodded. %u201cTwo men came for me from my era.%u201d%u201cWhat. Oh no,%u201d she exclaimed, her face full of horror.%u201cI killed them both and disabled their vehicle.%u201d He confessed to her. %u201cThey would have killed me and come for you, once they saw my stitches.%u201dShe sat on her stool. %u201cTwo men%u2019s lives gone simply because we met?%u201d%u201cIt%u2019s a rule to prevent contaminating one era with knowledge or artefacts from another,%u201d he said.%u201cWhy?%u201d%u201cIn case we interfere with a mechanism of the Universe we do not yet understand,%u201d he replied.The Time Traveller
